Objectifs des études

The objective of the programme is to provide a large degree of autonomy in the use of public health methods and the transmission of this knowledge in professional life. Fundamentals of computer science are acquired at the beginning of the course. Both basic and advanced methods in statistics and epidemiology are developed through lectures and practice. Integration with other methods is illustrated in various fields: operational research, health planning, health services research or health strategies. Participants are trained to communicate the acquired knowledge to their colleagues, through audiovisual and computer support.

The course is open to public health executives, medical doctors directed towards epidemiological methods, decision makers, health statisticians and research workers in the biomedical sector.

The programme aims at developing knowledge and skills (competency-based development) but also at helping students to turn what they learnt into action. At the end of this, students will have acquired a large degree of autonomy in the use of public health methods and concepts; and will be able to transmit these knowledges in professional life.

Due to the size of the class, we are able to offer a close supervision. The students can be in continuous interaction with both the academic and administrative staff.  The students which come from different contexts may face very different challenges. Therefore, individual and cloase tutelage can facilitate a dynamic learning. Basic aid may be available : in case of problmes with computers for example, remedial sessions with student assistants can be arranged.  It is also asked to the teachers to implement regular self-assessment devices so that learners can compare themselves to matter and objectify their limits in order to rectify the situation before the formal evaluations.  Finally, through the collaborative climate established in the teachings, the barriers experienced by some learners could be lifted by the learners more comfortable in the concerned matter.
