This course introduces the core fundamentals of the exciting and challenging world of innovation - what it means to lead this competence, as an entrepreneur or as a manager in a coporation. 

At the end of the course, students will be able to : 

- explain why innovation plays such a pivotal role for companies by understanding what innovation truely is.

- identify what capabilities need to be put in place to lead innovation today. 

- apprehend the human side of innovation by critically understand the role of leadership and culture for innovation.

Contenu de l'unité d'enseignement *

1. Today's priority on Innovation : Introduction & Overview 

2. Innovation Strategy and how it fits with and should stretch corporate Where-To-Play and brands equities

3. The Innovation Process : from creativity to flowing innovation through stage-gates to commercialization 

4. The pivotal, and new, role of Leadership principles and behaviors

5. Learning about Open Innovation in today's hyper-connected world.

6. The soft stuff is the hard part : Introducing a unique approach to build an Organizational Culture that underpins winning innovation. A look at leadership (again), intrinsic individual motivation, and effective collaboration in teams.

Méthodes d'enseignement et activités d'apprentissages *

Varied and interactive. 

Attendance is mandatory as the majority of the learning happens together in the class room during the conversation.  Active participation is required.  Prework will set up the interactive, participative classroom learning.

Specifically, you will experience a combination of 1) presentation of key, core concepts, 2) pre-reading of insightful material, 3) tailored case studies (execution of which will be indicated at issue), 4) guest speaker and workshop as appropriate.

Specifics of each class will be announced several days in advance – including references as appropriate.

IV. Evaluation
Méthode(s) d'évaluation *

Students will learn to apply and hone competences of analysis, synthesis, judgement and execution to a self-selected group case.
Other methods leading to the same objective will be developed in class:
- Case discussions and class interaction
- Individual assignment
- Group team work
- workshops on how to make a video podcast

Active participation in class.  What you will get out (including your grade) depends on the enthusiasm and energy you put in.  I will track this.

Final exam will be the writing of a position paper on the value and challenges of innovation in today’s world in general, with a deeper dive into one of the supporting pillars (leadership, strategy, process, human and organization).   More specific expectations will be shared after session five.
