Introduce, to the future engineer or manager, the key concepts of logistics processes optimization, quality and supply chain management while insisting on the underlying principles and assumptions as well as the resulting limitations and practical issues of their application. Improve significantly the capacity of the future engineer or manager as regards the integrated vision of industrial or business related problems and challenges. Indeed, the capability of having a global vision and of adopting an integrated approach to tackle industrial or business related problems/challenges is a critical skill expected from any tomorrow’s engineer or manager.

Contenu de l'unité d'enseignement *

Logistics and supply chain management deals with the optimal management of materials, information and financial flows in a network consisting of suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, vendors and customers. The coordination and integration of these flows within and across these network elements are critical and are acknowledged as the core aspect of any successful business strategy. This course is dedicated to the fundamental concepts, challenges, tools and techniques of logistic processes’ optimization, quality and supply chain management. It is built around the following nine pillars: PLAN (demand and supply planning models), SOURCE (sourcing, procurement), MAKE (production/manufacturing, improvement of work flow within a manufacturing plant, design of services, etc.), STOCK (inventory management, inventory trade offs), WAREHOUSING (location of warehouses, cross-docking, warehouse management, etc.), DELIVER (transport & distribution, design of a distribution system/network) RETURN (reverse logistics, recycling), QUALITY (introduction to quality management techniques: traditional approach, preventive approach, certification, standardization and normative issues, quality in the production/manufacturing sector, quality in the services sector, quality control methods, introduction to Total Quality Management methods (Kaizen, 6 Sigma, 5S), INTEGRATION & COORDINATION (basic strategies for an optimal integration of the different functions of the above 8 pillars, i.e.: optimal design, planning, control and management of a supply chain).

Méthodes d'enseignement et activités d'apprentissages *

- Semester: Second half of the First semester of the academic year (begin. November to mid December). - Theoretical part: 2 ECTS (6 weekly sessions ex cathedra lectures of 4 hours each). - Exercises/workshops: 2 ECTS (6 weekly sessions of 4 hours each from November to mid December including workshops with industrial experts and field visits). - Practical/Personal work: 1 ECTS ( a real case study to be worked out).
